I wrote this song after a cup of coffee with Raymond and a quick discussion about a window that had been broken for a while. It went kind of like this.

Raymond: "Look at the window you broke"
Me : "Things Break"

Lyrics

I love a little rust under dusty patina
I’m a fiend for scars, honky Tonk bars,
And rodeo arenas
My A to B has a shake and a rattle
Coughing and a wheezing and aspitting up gravel
In a dust cloud covering up the mess I’ve made
With a heart-shaped bottle and a tombstone spade

Yea things break then you fix them
Spur the saddle and keep on living
Get knocked down nine and spring a leak
Get up 10 for a brand new week
Of the same old same
Carousel in a neon dream
A big o diamond jumping off a ring onto the sawdust floor
It’s a wonder how any heart can hold its shape
With how things break

You can’t hang the old flat top
And bend the strings at the same time
Can’t leave your pole In the corner at home
And still get a big ol’ bite
It’s bound to happen a chain reaction
Pull the card and watch em fall
If the coffee ain’t hot just drink it cold
It’s one for the money and Beer for the show

Things break then you fix them
Spur the saddle and keep on living
Get knocked down nine and spring a leak
Get up 10 for a brand new week
Of the same old same
Carousel in a neon dream
A big ol’ diamond jumping off your ring onto the sawdust floor
It’s a wonder how a heart can keep its shape
With how things break

Call it a crack in my character
but I’m still pressing on that’s for sure

Cause things break then you fix ‘em
Spur the saddle and keep on living
Get knocked down nine and spring a leak
Get up 10 for a brand new week
Of the same old same
Carousel in a neon dream
A big ol’ diamond jumping off your ring onto the sawdust floor
It’s a wonder how a heart can keep its shape
With how things break
